One of the most iconic car places in Los Angeles is now performing its final act.
The Aadlen Brothers Auto Wrecking, located in San Fernando Valley, had been the host for over thousands of burned-out, smashed and rusted cars. Moreover, it has served as set for more than 200 movies shot for Hollywood.
The place is quite unique with the “Bruce” shark mold from Steven Spielberg’s 11975 “Jaws” movie finding its home there.
Nathan Adlen, the owner of the Hollywood junkyard, announced that by the end of this year, the place will turn into 26 acres of bare land. He explains that “You need to make money to survive, and it’s gotten harder to make money in the junk business.”
The place is the home for thousands of cars gathered one on top of another, waiting to be smashed and turned into scrap metal. The 60-year old owner added that prices have gone down while insurance cost are still rising and that he is working on a minimum wage.
Over the years, more than 200 movies, TV shows, commercials, video games and music videos were filmed at this nostalgic place.
Adlen also says that the income from Hollywood gigs is not enough for a business that used to cater to mechanics who were looking for cheap car parts taken either from a Rolls-Royce or a Volkswagen bug.
The lot has also appeared in famous box office movies like “The Hangover”, “The Fall Guy”, “The A-Team”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and other popular TV shows like the recent “Supergirl”.
